Adult
Religious Education Committee (AREC)
History:
In March 2002, at the request of the Parish Pastoral Council,
an Adult Religious Education Committee was formed. Their mission
was to assess the religious education needs of adults in our
parish, to plan, and to implement opportunities for our adults
to grow in faith and in knowledge of the teachings of Jesus
Christ and the Catholic Church.
Mission
Statement of AREC
Our
adult faith formation ministry will offer, over time, a comprehensive
and systematic presentation and exploration of the core elements
of Catholic faith and practice - a complete initiation into
a Catholic way of life. It will do so in a way that is accessible
to adults and relates to their life experiences, helping them
to form a Christian conscience and to live their lives in
the world as faithful disciples of Jesus.

Whole
Community Prayer and Reflection
In
an effort to bring our whole community together in prayer
and reflection, the Adult Religious Education Committee is
encouraging all members of our parish community to pray over
the scripture readings for next Sunday, throughout the week.
In giving special attention to the Gospel reading, we will
be providing a weekly reflection question. We are asking all
committees to start their meetings with an opening prayer
that includes this Gospel reading and reflection question.
We encourage families and those who may not be attending a
parish meeting during the week to visit this webpage each
week for the reading and reflection question. Our hopes are
that we, as a parish community, will deepen our faith and
better prepare ourselves for Sunday Eucharist through this
whole community prayer and reflection.

The Eucharist, A Mystery To Be Believed

- the blessed Trinity,
- Jesus the true sacrificial Lamb
- The Holy Spirit
- The Church
- The Sacraments
- Eschatology and
- Virgin Mary
Please sign-up at the religious education table in the commons so we know how many to expect. This document can be read online and is linked to the homepage of our parish website. Following Pope John Paul II’s “Year of the Eucharist”, bishops from around the world gathered in Rome in the fall of 2005 for a special meeting called a synod. The propositions that emerged from this meeting were forwarded to Pope Benedict, who used them as the basis of his “Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation” on The Sacrament of Charity.
The Eucharist, A Mystery To Be Celebrated How do we celebrate?…
Session Two: Monday, November 12th at 7:00pm in the greatroom.
The Eucharist, A Mystery To Be Celebrated
How do we celebrate?...
- The work of “Christus Totus”
- Ars celebrandi
- The structure of the Eucharistic celebration
- Authentic participation
- Interior participation in the celebration
- Adoration and Eucharistic devotion
The inherent beauty of how the Eucharist is celebrated is reflected in the “sense of the sacred and the use of outward signs which help to cultivate this sense,” for “everything related to the Eucharist should be marked by beauty.” This includes the harmony of the ritual itself; the vestments; the furnishings; the sacred vessels; the music; even the space of worship. All should combine to “foster awe for the mystery of God.” We contribute to that beauty by the way we participate in the Eucharist.
Reading assignment for the November 12th session is para. 33 – 56.
Monday, November 19th at 7:00pm in the greatroom.
The Eucharist, A Mystery To Be Lived
How do we live?....
- Living the Sunday obligation
- The meaning of rest and of work
- Sunday assemblies in the absence of a priest
- The Eucharist and the lay faithful
- The Eucharist and priestly spirituality
- The Eucharist and the consecrated life
- The Eucharist and moral transformation
- The Eucharist and mission and witness
- The Eucharist, bread broken for the life of the world
Pope Benedict reminds us the liturgy of the word and the Eucharistic liturgy “Form but one single act of worship”. From the Scripture readings, through which “God himself speaks to his people,” to the presentation of the gifts, when “we bring to the altar all the pain and suffering of the world,” to the Eucharistic prayer itself, handed down “by the Church’s living Tradition,” to the final dismissal, which sends us into the world on our “mission”, the Mass empowers us to live out our faith in daily life. “Worship pleasing to God can never be a purely private matter,” Pope Benedict says. “It demands a public witness to our faith.”
