PATHWAYS seeks to provide a guide
for the formation of those called to serve the community as
catechists.
PATHWAYS
seeks to provide standards of excellence in teaching skills
which each catechist is invited to master.
PATHWAYS
seeks to provide support for catechists desiring enrichment
of their own faith by recommending study of the teachings
of the Catholic faith.
PATHWAYS
seek to provide official diocesan recognition of catechists
for their study and development through a diocesan certification.
The Diocese of Richmond Catechetical Norms, “Called to Be Disciples,” require that catechists of adults, youth, and children be certified through a common process – PATHWAYS Training for Catechists.
Below is a quick summary of how catechists complete the process of catechist certification in the Diocese of Richmond through PATHWAYS.
- The parish Catechetical Leader(Sydney Farnum) registers catechists with the PATHWAYS Registrar.
- The Registrar assigns a Reader to the catechist and notifies the catechist to begin their PATHWAYS process.
- The catechist selects a mentor.
- The Catechetical Leader provides the catechists with all the required resources.
- The catechist selects a Self Evaluation Guide (Adults, Youth, or Children) to complete in writing. (est. 13-14 hours)
- The catechist completes the PATHWAYS process at their own pace and sends their completed Response Form for evaluation.
- The Reader either returns the approved Response Form to the Catechist, or works with the catechist to develop the responses that need improvement.
- The Reader notifies the Registrar that the Response Form has been satisfactorily completed.
- The Registrar issues a PATHWAYS certificate and pin to the parish leader.
- Completion of the PATHWAYS PARISH level is recognized in the local parish.
- Certification progress continues as the catechist works through the SENIOR level.
Catechists have two years to complete the PARISH level process, and another two years to complete the SENIOR level process.
You may pick up materials for this self-paced training program
