A 'Marriage Prep' Weekend

Spring & Fall Sessions

Friday 6:30 p.m. - 9:45 p.m.

Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
The 'Marriage Prep' Weekend is:

... a time to talk
... a time to listen
... a time to share
... a time to love

'by the joys and sacrifices of their vocations, and through their faithful love, married people will become witnesses of that love which the Lord revealed to the world...' (guardrm et spes, n 52)

The Marriage Prep Weekend
It is a quiet weekend designed to give engaged couples an opportunity to deepen their relationship during their engagement period.

It creates an opportunity for the engaged couple to get away and be free of the distractions of daily living and the tensions and pressures of planning a wedding.

The weekend centers around personal quiet time for reflection and sharing honestly and deeply with each other about their prospective lives together.

Attendance
The 'Marriage Prep' weekend is Catholic in origin and orientation. However, it does respect each persons faith from an Holistic point of view, and as an aid to a couples spiritual growth. The weekend is open to couples searching for enrichment in their quality of life together.

In the diocese of Richmond, and most all Diocese couples planning to be married are required to complete a 'Marriage Prep' instructional course prior to the wedding date.

Cost
The $55.00 per couple includes: all instructional material during the weekend, refreshments, snacks, Saturday lunch, and drinks such as coffee, tea, juice and soda's. In addition, a certificate of completion will be awarded to those completing the entire course. All registrations are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Should the cost be a problem, contact the Pastor of your Church.

While we do take registrations by telephone, reservations are confirmed only when the non-refundable fee is received.

Each couple planning to attend the weekend should schedule a time to complete the Myers Briggs Relationship Report. (This will take place in Bristol).

The Happenings
During the weekend several married couples, along with the clergy, alternate sharing presentations drawn from their own experiences.

The couples are encouraged, through a dynamic process of learning, writing, and dialogue, to share privately with each other on all aspects of their marriage: their strengths and weaknesses, their desires, ambitions, goals, and their attitudes about family, church, money, sex and children.

When & Where
The weekend begins Friday evening promptly at 6:30 p.m. and lasts to about 9:45 p.m. On Saturday morning the first session begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. and the weekend finishes up Saturday evening about 7:00 p.m. Please make every effort to be here 15 minutes prior to the starting time for each day!

Pre-Marriage Weekend

Spring '06 .... Apr. 28/29; (Friday Evening & Saturday) - Natural Family Planning May 5th

All couples normally return to their homes after the sessions on Friday evening and return the next day for the Saturday sessions. If overnight arrangements are needed, please advise when registering for the weekend.

What It Is Not
The 'Marriage Prep' weekend is not a sensitivity course and couples are not required to discuss their relationship openly or in a group.

IT IS
The 'Marriage Prep' weekend is very simply a weekend to focus on the one you love the most and with whom you plan to spend the rest of your life.
